![]() Review of the LR SASS 308 from DPMS 2-1-07 I was interested in the SASS and have been wondering how well it would group for a medium range tactical rifle. The rifle is one the best semi auto .308 I have shot. And it is the BEST AR style .308. I broke the barrel in with 150 grain ball (10 rounds) cleaning the bore after every shot. I then moved to 168 GMM. I fired a total of 12 round of GMM and 22 day total with the last 4 as the group shows with one flyer on my 3rd round. This was shot in and BZO was set @ 200 yards. I found the trigger (JP) to be crisp with a clean break and out of the box very easy to hold on target through out the pull. I put a 3.5X10 40mm mark4 scope mounted in A.R.M.S. rings and a 5/8 inch riser. After spending the time on the range with the SASS, I went into the shop at the range and purchased a nice 42 inch hard case and decided this one will stay in my collection and replace my M1A. I think with a little work on comfort issues on the buttstock the SASS will make a great tactical rifle and ready to go right out of the box. If you are going to use this rifle for ranges of 300 yards or less the Vltor stock is fine but I will push it out to 600 yards and plan on changing to a Magpul. This will be a perfect rifle for out to 600-800 yards even with the short barrel.
I have built and shot all types and brands of AR style .308 and .223 except for optics this one is ready for the Patrol Car, Range or Varmit hunting. Special thanks to: Hoopers Law Enforcement Supply Gun Emporium Shooting range
